What is Remote Online Notarization (RON)?
Remote Online Notarization (RON) refers to the process of having a state-licensed notary public notarize a document remotely through the use of electronic signature, identity verification, audio-visual and electronic notarial journal and record keeping technologies.
What are the benefits? Not only can you notarize faster, you have increased access to Notarial Services from virtually anywhere. Your agreements are secure and enforceable, reducing identity fraud.

In this DocuSign University course, you will learn how to send envelopes to be notarized using remote online notarization.
This course will enable senders to add notary groups, send envelopes for notarization, and download or print remotely notarized documents.
How to Setup Your Profile
To set up your Notary profile, follow the steps below:
- Accept the email invitation from your account administrator to be a Notary for the organization (if you have not received this invitation, contact your Account Administrator).
- After accepting the invitation, enter your commission information (i.e. Jurisdiction, Name as it appears on your commission, Commission Number and Expiration).
Once you have set up your Notary profile, you can edit or update your information at any time by clicking your initials in the upper right-hand corner, and navigating to My Preferences > Notary Public > Edit.
How to Perform Online Notarization
Performing RON is separated into 5 parts:
- Pre-session setup
- Start the notary session
- Participants join and sign Complete notarization
- Post-session housekeeping
